Animal Welfare Policy
Animal Welfare Policy
At The Avon Company (U.S. & Canada), Avon has a deep respect for animal welfare. Avon does not conduct animal testing on its products and is committed to the ethical and humane treatment of animals. Avon’s top priority is ensuring both product safety and human health through the use of alternative testing methods, including:
Use of existing safety data
Computational modeling
In vitro (test tube/cell culture) testing
Clinical testing with human volunteers
These proven alternatives allow Avon to confirm the safety and efficacy of its products without animal testing.
As part of the LG Household & Healthcare (LG H&H) family, Avon develops products for North America and global markets. While Avon does not test on animals, it’s important to note that authorities in China require animal testing for certain cosmetic categories sold there.
LG H&H remains committed to achieving the global acceptance of non-animal safety methods. Progress has been made, as Chinese regulators now allow alternative testing for many categories (such as shampoo, body washes, and color cosmetics). In addition, products manufactured locally in China may use alternative safety methods, and several Avon categories are being transitioned to local production.
Through Avon’s membership in the Personal Care Products Council, Avon is actively working with Chinese authorities to eliminate animal testing requirements altogether and looks forward to a full resolution in the future.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Avon test on animals?
No. Avon (U.S. & Canada) does not test on animals. Some products sold in China may still undergo government-required animal testing, but Avon is working with industry partners to end these requirements.
Do you sell in countries that require animal testing?
Yes, Avon products are sold in China, where certain cosmetics are still subject to mandatory testing. However, Avon itself does not conduct these tests. Avon continues to advocate for non-animal alternatives globally.
If Avon doesn’t test on animals, why is it on PETA’s animal testing list?
Because Avon products are sold in China, where some animal testing is still legally required for specific categories. Until those laws change, organizations like PETA include Avon on their list.
Why does Avon sell in China if testing is required?
Avon is part of LG H&H, a global company. While animal testing laws are still in place for some products in China, Avon is working with regulators and industry groups to eliminate these requirements.
Are ingredients tested on animals before being used in Avon products?
No. Avon and LG H&H do not require animal testing on ingredients. Ingredient safety is confirmed through non-animal methods such as cell culture testing and chemical structure analysis.
